Extremes of Temperature!
This week has been hard work in the studios, we had a meeting on Monday and nearly melted. When it is sunny the space heats up almost instantly and we swelter away.
With only three working weeks left there is still a shed load of stuff to do.
We are organising the final celebration, running a further three workshops and trying to get a bit more publicity in the press. As ever we are aware how many other things we could have done but are really pleased with the things we have achieved.
I've completed a large oil painting which I'm quite happy with and hope to start another next week.I'm also trying to design the invites and we are getting a CD produced documenting as many stages of the project as we can.
The final week will be an exhibition of work produced not just by us but also by the workshop participants so if you can get along to the station it should be worth a look.

26 May 2009
Hi Everyone
We're nearly into the last month of the project and I can't believe how fast the time has gone. Since my last posting Raija has run three workshops with local schools and Rolf has run one with adults, all successful and much enjoyed.
I'm running one for adults on June the 8th (e-mail via this site for more details).
Before the project finishes I want to get another couple of paintings done, I've been focusing on the shadows cast by the roof and the deserted parts of the station.
So far we've had plenty of positive feedback and made contact with some other artists. Looking forward to seeing what June brings!

new work

Hello,

We Have all have had positive encouragement from passers by - helps to keep things going. My two chairs instillation idea has gone onto a 'backburner' for a little while as the production of more images in paint seems to take first priority.

something from me - Barbara

Hello I'm Barbara - one of the crowd working in the Bridge. Sometimes it is very cold. When the sun shines it is like an oven. Pauline has invested in a big fan. i might do the same.

So far I've been looking at the effects of light on the interior arches of the station. they produce a lace like quality. so processed some snaps of these through the 'fixer' and saw my ispiration. have finished two pictures and am hoping to develop an installation idea using two found chairs. Hope it works out wish me luck.

Barbara.

Monday 20 April 2009

20th April
I had a good drawing day at the station today. I'm beginning with a series of mixed media drawings exploring different compositions and then hope to work them up to some large scale oil paintings. The parts that interests me most are the deserted platforms, barricaded off to prevent public access. As ever, when tackling an unfamiliar subject matter, it takes me a while to get in to my stride but by the end of this morning there was light at the end of the tunnel (no pun intended).
Several people waved and knocked on the windows and I saw a couple read the information sheets. It is quite strange being so exposed but so far the reaction seems to be positive.

Thursday 15th April.Arrived at the studio after taking some work to be exhibited in Living North Spring Art Fair. Rolf and Raija were there. Raija and I took some photos of my work space then I continued to paint, listening as usual to my ipod compilation to keep my adrenalin going. It was a cold grey day with sea fret billowing round outside.

A knock on the window drew my attention to the smiling face of my friend Linda Kaye who owns Studio 1 in Tynemouth. She gave me the thumbs up sign and said all looked good. We chatted briefly, then she took a photo of me working.

Other people passed by and peered in to look at our work and read the publicity texts on the outside walls of the studio. There is a feeling that we are attracting attention to our project. Will be glad when the weather gets warmer. It's a strange feeling when your hands become too cold to work.

First day of construction of studio spaces
Hello again
Just pausing from sending out publicity details to everyone I think might be interested in the project. Rolf and David start construction of the spaces today so it should all start to become a reality.
Lots of jobs to do, ordering materials, press releases and then hopefully some art work!

UQA meeting at tynemouth 25.03.09

Hi everyone,

I feel quite tired after the meeting today because we went through so many issues. My head is full of plans of: materials orders ( ink, paper, plates ...), workshops, organising the space to work in and that is even before even thinking of the actual work we are to do in the space.
For the evidence log / notes on contact with our audience and possible feedback comments from anyone we come to contact with while at the studio;I may bring in couple of notebooks I have been hamstering over the years in my house for the group members to choose from.
Can not wait till next week to see the studio space actually becoming a reality. Although we already have a good idea of what they will look like from Rolf's scale models.
I am spending some time at Northern print, to refresh my skill in ething, although I have some plans o doing monoprints and collagraphs. I have looked into possibility to use different papers that I normally use.
See you all next week,
Raija
